Using an old Kodak Brownie camera from the early 1900’s, I’m working on a series called Image/Artifact. I am photographing spaces and correlating them with a slip cast object. The images have a nostalgic feel, as they resemble the focal depth of old family photographs and vary in size from 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" and larger. I then make a ceramic slip cast of an object found in the area. The idea to this series is that both a photograph and a slip cast object are copies of the “real thing”. These images and objects reflect a contemporary history in the making and reflect the documentation of past and present. These pairings reflect the need to create a narrative and answers to the past.
